SV Junovia

About

Junovia is a Pearson 422 cutter-rigged sloop crewed by Nat, Kendra, Maya, and Morgan Powning.

We left our home port of Portland to cruise full-time in 2024, explored the entire coast of British Columbia and Southeast Alaska in 2025, and are sailing down the US West Coast to California and Mexico in 2026.

Automatic Identification System (AIS)

A Garmin Cortex Class B+ AIS transponder regularly broadcasts information over VHF radio to nearby vessels and other stations. The transmitted data includes her identification, position, heading, course, and speed. There are websites that collect and share AIS data from various stations, including Junovia. Two of these sites are MarineTraffic and VesselFinder where you can see details for all vessels around the world who's AIS data is being picked up by these stations, including Junovia. Check them out to see how many ships are travelling around the world at any given time, you may be surprised at the amount of traffic!
